Details:
I took this picture from atop the massive centuries-old fort that forms one side of the harbour. It is still used as a military base.
This picture faces west, and shows the main city which faces the larger harbour area – the one now used by cruise ships. Of course the fort straddles the land between the two port areas, protecting both.
One of the sites of Fort de France is the cathedral with the see-through steeple, visible on the left side of this picture. Just to its right you can see the back of the yellow and red Bibliotheque Schoelcher, another notable landmark.
